The 4-letter code indicates the department, school, or subject:

The first digit indicates the year in which a course is normally taken:
- Courses beginning with '1' indicate first year level courses
- Courses beginning with '2' indicate second year level courses
- Courses beginning with '3' indicate third year level courses
