2. I can't fit 30 courses into my timetable... what do I do? [ Top ]
At Laurentian, one course is 6 credits. You don't need 30 courses in first year... you need 30 credits - that's 5 courses. Click here for more details.
3. I have courses scheduled back to back - will I have time to get from one class to another? [ Top ]
Yes - Professors typically end their lectures 10 to 15 minutes before the end of the scheduled time. This allows for students and professors to transition from one class to another. It also allows you enough time for a washroom break and a quick trip to Tim's.
4. The course I want does not show a day and time. What's up with that? [ Top ]
That's because it is offered by distance education (Envision). It also shows the course section as "10" or "20". If you are not a distance education student we suggest you take your courses in person and on campus - look for sections that read "01", "02", etc. and list the meeting times.

5. The course I want does not appear on the list or I get a message that reads: "No classes meeting the search criteria have been found". [ Top ]
Try the following:
- Change the Term (the course you might be looking for might be 3 or 6 credits)
- Enter the Term and the Subjects - leave all the other fields blank.
- There is also the possibility that the specific course you want is not offered this year
6. I am going into Concurrent Education (English Programme) and all my EDUC courses are at the same time and place. Is that OK? [ Top ]
Yes. This is part of the master plan. You have meetings on selected Friday afternoons that cover a range of topics such as "Orientation to Teaching" and "The Ontario College of Teachers". These are mandatory meetings (show up - pass, don't show up - fail) that factor into your accreditation as a teacher. Report to your first class on September 10 and an outline for the year will be revealed to you.
7. I am an arts (Social Sciences and Humanities) student. Do I really have to take a science course? [ Top ]
Yes. It is an exit requirement for Laurentian. We strongly suggest you take your science elective in first year because:
- it gets it out of the way,
- you have more flexibility in your timetable in first year making it easier to take this course,
- you might acquire some skills in this course that will serve you well in the upper years.
We also understand that you may have chosen to study in the arts because sciences are not your thing. That's OK. We have science courses that are specifically designed for non-science students. A list of these courses can be found here.
8. Do I need to take labs? [ Top ]
Yes. If you registered in a course with a lab component you must register in ONE LAB SECTION for that course. Labs are indicated by means of an additional "L" in the course code. They also say "- Lab"

9. Is there a deadline for registration? [ Top ]
You can register in classes up to (and including) September 17. However, classes fill up quickly so we recommend registering in your courses early so that you can pick your preferred section and have the timetable you want.
10. What if I show up to class and I discover that it's not for me? [ Top ]
No problem - you can add/drop courses up to (and including) September 17. This gives you time to test the waters. After September 17 you can drop courses but it's too late to pick up a Fall or a a Fall/Winter course.
